Porcelain Veneers in Annapolis & Calvert
Natural-Looking Veneers for a Bright New Smile
Porcelain veneers can give you a beautiful new smile in just a couple of visits.
Porcelain veneers are very thin porcelain facings that are bonded to the front surfaces of your teeth to change their color, size or shape. They can also make mildly crooked teeth appear straight, or close a gap between teeth. If you are unhappy with your smile, porcelain veneers may be just the answer for you.
Our veneers are very natural-looking. Most patients can’t even tell they are wearing veneers! Dr. Schultheis chooses durable, aesthetic porcelains that she can customize to complement your looks.
Skilled and experienced cosmetic dentist
Dr. Schultheis has been placing veneers for over ten years. She takes regular continuing education courses, including extensive advanced training at the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, to stay current with the latest materials and procedures.
Minimal and No-Prep Veneers
To prepare a veneer for placement, a small layer of the front surface of the tooth is removed so the veneer will look natural and not make the tooth look bulky. For some patients we can provide minimal- or no-preparation veneers. These veneers are made from strong porcelains that can be layered very thinly. In some cases, no anesthetic is required.
Dr. Schultheis will choose from a large selection of top-quality brands, including Lumineers® and Vivaneers™, to give you the exact look you want. Dr. Schultheis is fully trained to provide these and several other varieties, and can tell you if minimal or no-prep veneers are an option for you, after a full exam and smile evaluation.
One-Visit Veneers with CEREC®
Using our in-office CEREC computerized design and milling system for dental restorations, your porcelain veneers can often be made in our own lab in the same visit, which often removes the need for a second appointment. This saves you a lot of time and eliminates the need to wear plastic temporaries.
Learn more about our CEREC computerized dental restoration system on our One-Visit Crowns page.
Although our CEREC system can produce most of the veneer types you might need, there are certain situations where your veneers would need to be fabricated in a lab and returned to us. We work with top-quality labs that can create the exact veneers we need and have them back to us in only 72 hours. This is four to five time faster than the usual laboratory. This means you will only have to wear a plastic temporary veneer for a short time.

Our Veneers Procedure
Dr. Schultheis pays great attention to detail at each step of the procedure to ensure that your veneers are beautiful, natural-looking and long-lasting.
Consultation and treatment plan
Following a comprehensive examination, Dr. Schultheis will consult with you about your smile goals. She will find out how you want your new teeth to look, in terms of size, shape and color, and will answer all of your questions. Together, you and the doctor will evolve your exact treatment plan.
Designing your smile
Dr. Schultheis takes digital photos of your smile and digital impressions of your teeth, which will be used to design your veneers. If you are getting a large number of veneers, Dr. Schultheis can create a wax model of the proposed smile design and present it to you to help finalize the look to be achieved.
She can also use your smile photos and create a digital simulation of what the veneers you have chosen will look like when placed. She can also place actual temporary veneers over your teeth so you can see them in real life.
Tooth preparation and creation of final veneers
Dr. Schultheis will gently prepare your teeth by removing just enough tooth structure to form a strong bonding surface and to compensate for the added thickness of the veneers. Patients receiving minimal-prep veneers require only limited preparation of their teeth, and often don’t need any anesthetic. Dr. Schultheis takes impressions of the prepared teeth, which are used to fabricate the final veneers.
Try-in and final placement
Before placing your final veneers, Dr. Schultheis will check them to ensure they have the right color and shade. She will then use a temporary placement paste and “try them in” so you can see how the veneers look in your smile.
Dr.Schultheis will make any adjustments needed to make the veneers look exactly as you wish, and will get your final approval. She will then permanently bond them to your teeth, giving you a natural-looking and beautiful new smile!
Five Year Warranty on All Porcelain Veneers
Dr. Schultheis backs all her porcelain veneers with a five year warranty. Our treatment coordinator can give you details.
Biocompatibility Testing Available
Our philosophy of dental treatment is to do what will be best for the patient’s health in the long run. We choose porcelains that are biocompatible for most people. As an option, Dr. Schultheis can draw a small sample of your blood to be used in a personalized biocompatibility test. From this test we will be able to verify which of our materials will be the most compatible with your body.
Dental Bonding – An Economical Alternative for Minor Cosmetic Changes
Dental bonding is a tooth-colored resin that is applied to the teeth to cover up small cosmetic or structural flaws. With dental bonding material, Dr. Schultheis can close small gaps between teeth, cover spots or discolored areas and repair chips.
Bonding can also be used to make teeth longer or change their overall shape. It is a fast and economical solution for small changes, but is not as long-lasting and durable as porcelain veneers.
