Dr. Schultheis with invisalign patient

Straight and Beautiful Teeth without Metal Braces

invisalign-tray Invisalign uses clear, BPA-free plastic aligners to provide a virtually invisible alternative to metal braces. Unlike braces, the aligners can be removed at any time for eating or teeth cleaning.

Dr. Schultheis has used clear aligners for over a decade to straighten teeth for our patients. As well as Invisalign, she offers ClearCorrect clear aligners. Aligner therapy can be used for any adult and teen whose adult teeth have emerged. It has been proven to get similar results to teeth straightening with braces for most types of alignment issues.

Advantages of Clear Aligners

  • Clear aligners are virtually invisible – Instead of awkward-looking metal braces, people see your natural smile.
  • Clear aligners fit comfortably – The aligners fit snugly around your teeth and there are no metal wires or brackets to cause irritation.
  • Clear aligners are easily removable – You can easily remove the aligners in order to eat, clean your teeth or when attending special occasions. And since there are no metal brackets or wires to trap food, you can eat anything you want.
  • Clear aligners are biocompatible – The clear aligners are made out of a BPA-free medical grade polymer that is hypoallergenic and inert.

How the Clear Aligner Procedure Works

The Invisalign and ClearCorrect systems are an alternative to traditional braces for patients who have all their adult teeth and complete jaw growth. It is an effective treatment for a broad range of cases.

Initial consultation

During your initial exam and consultation, Dr. Schultheis will discuss your smile goals and determine if you are a candidate for clear aligner treatment. She will explain the entire procedure in detail and will answer all of your questions.

Planning your treatment

planning invisalign

Your entire treatment will be planned out digitally, so you can see exactly how your teeth will move.

Dr. Schultheis will take impressions of your upper and lower teeth, as well as a full set of digital X-rays and digital photos. These are sent to the aligner lab, where a precise digital treatment plan will be created.

Once the plan is completed, she will show you a video animation of how your teeth will shift at each phase of the procedure. She will also give you an estimate of how long the entire treatment will take.

Comfortable custom aligners

The clear aligners fit closely over your teeth and are made out of a smooth, BPA-free medical-grade plastic.

The lab will create a series of customized clear aligners for you. The aligners fit closely over your teeth and are made out of a smooth, BPA-free medical-grade polymer (plastic).

Unlike metal brackets and wires, clear aligners are comfortable and don’t irritate your gums or the inside of your cheeks.

Gradually straightening your teeth

You will wear each customized aligner for approximately two weeks before you switch to the next aligner in the series. You will return to our office about every six weeks for a check-up appointment with Dr. Schultheis, who will ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned.

Although treatment time can vary from patient to patient, the average time to complete clear aligner treatment is twelve months, whereas treatment with traditional braces can often take several years.

Invisalign Express for Quick Correction of Minor Misalignment

Invisalign Express is an affordable, rapid and convenient way to correct minor flaws in the alignment of your teeth. It is an excellent option for small issues, such as a few teeth with minor crowding, or some minor open spacing between the teeth.

Regular Invisalign treatment requires between 20 and 30 aligners to move your teeth into their final positions. With Invisalign Express, only 10 aligners or less are needed to correct these smaller problems. The entire process takes only about three to six months to complete. Dr. Schultheis can let you know if Invisalign Express will give you the results you are looking for.

Invisalign Teen®

Happy teenagers

Dr. Schultheis offers Invisalign Teen, an Invisalign treatment program specially tailored for teenagers.

Dr. Schultheis also offers Invisalign Teen, an Invisalign treatment program specially tailored to the clinical needs of teenagers. This treatment can be delivered to any teen whose permanent teeth have fully erupted. The Invisalign teen program includes extra aligners and a tracking system.

Invisalign Teen is considered to be as effective as traditional braces for resolving most orthodontic issues, and the treatment time is about the same as with conventional metal braces. Dr. Schultheis can let you know if your teen is eligible for this special Invisalign program, after a comprehensive exam and evaluation.

Conditions Clear Aligners Can Correct

Invisalign and ClearCorrect treatments can resolve a wide variety of problems, from mild cases of crooked teeth to more involved situations causing serious bite issues. Here are some of the conditions that can be effectively remedied using clear aligners:

  • Overly crowded teeth

overly-crowded-teethOvercrowding occurs when there is simply a lack of room on the jaw ridge for all of the teeth to fit. When left untreated, overly crowded teeth can trap food, cause dental decay and increase the risk of gum disease.

  • Overbite

overbite-tcAn overbite is a condition where the upper teeth bite over the lower teeth. This issue can cause painful jaw joint problems, gum irritation, wear on the lower teeth and chipped or fractured front teeth. It can also have a hand in bringing on gum disease.

  • Underbite

underbiteIn an underbite, the lower teeth protrude past the upper teeth. This can lead to tooth wear by preventing the normal function of the front teeth or molars. It can also cause painful jaw joint problems.

  • Gaps between the teeth

widely-spaced-teethGaps are usually caused by abnormal continued growth of the jawbone, or by teeth shifting into an open space left by a missing tooth. Gaps between teeth easily trap food and bacteria, which increases the risk of tooth decay and gum disease.

  • Open bite

open biteIn an “open bite”, some of the teeth do not make contact with the opposing teeth, leaving an open space between the upper and lower teeth. An open bite can cause poor or painful chewing, jaw joint problems and speech difficulties.

  • Crossbite

crossbiteinvisalign2In a crossbite, one or more of the upper teeth bite on the inside of the lower teeth. This can happen on both the front and the sides of the mouth. A crossbite can lead to tooth wear, gum disease and bone loss.
